How long does a Retractable Flood Barrier take to close?

The video below shows the simultaneous deployment of two FloodFree Retractable Flood Barrier systems, one automated and one manually operated and provides insight into the operational procedures and response times required for each system during a flood event.

The automated barrier protects a 5.8m clear opening and deploys in just 3 minutes via local push-button control after travelling along an 11.6m long track.

The manual barrier protects a 2m opening and can be deployed within seconds.

Every location presents a unique flood risk profile, requiring site-specific flood barrier solutions, even within the same facility. This project demonstrates how automated and manual barrier systems can be integrated into the same building to address varying operational requirements while delivering effective protection against water ingress.

While differing in size and operation, both barriers are designed to provide permanent, reliable flood protection at critical access points. As integrated elements of the building, they remain readily available when needed, eliminating reliance on temporary measures or stored components during an emergency. This enables rapid deployment while maintaining unrestricted day-to-day functionality when not in use.

Automated Retractable Flood Barrier (pictured)

  • Protects a ground floor loading bay
  • 5.8m clear opening with an 11.6m total track length
  • Deployed via local push-button controls
  • Integrated audible and visual alarm system to warn pedestrians and building management during operation

Manual Retractable Flood Barrier (pictured)

  • Protects ground floor Lifts and Lift wells
  • 2.1m clear opening with a 4.2m total track length
  • Simple manual deployment using integrated handles
