Flood Barriers for Subway Stations and Pedestrian Underpasses
FloodFree's Retractable Flood Barrier system offers a proven and engineered solution to protect these vital public spaces, ensuring continuous safety and accessibility while maintaining unobstructed passage during normal conditions.
For a recent project, a custom-designed and manufactured retractable flood barrier was specifically tailored to meet site and operational flood protection requirements. The barrier system was supplied in manageable sections, allowing for secure transport, ease of handling and efficient install process. This approach minimises install time, project disruption and ensures adaptability for complex urban environments in tight physical spaces.
The barrier itself consists of an electrically-operated retractable bulkhead, which remains neatly stored beside the pedestrian pathway when not in use.
During flood risk events, the barrier can be deployed rapidly and securely via an integrated electric drive system. The design includes a concealed rail and roller mechanism, providing smooth and reliable movement while maintaining the aesthetic and functionality of the walkway.
To ensure reliability in all conditions, the system also features a manual override option. A hand winch (or similar device) can be fitted, allowing manual operation of the barrier in the event of a power outage. Once deployed, the flood barrier provides full perimeter sealing, offering robust protection against water ingress.
By integrating this type of retractable flood protection, councils and asset managers can mitigate flood risks to public infrastructure while ensuring minimal impact on everyday use.
This innovative, site-specific solution highlights FloodFree's capability in delivering functional, safe, and unobtrusive flood mitigation systems that meet both operational and community needs.
