Training to deploy Launceston’s Flood Levee Defence System

The City of Launceston facilitated a flood gate closure exercise in the early hours of yesterday morning, as part of a flood preparedness exercise.

Launceston’s flood levee defence system comprises more than 12km of earth and concrete flood levees, 19 floodgates, and a series of river level gauges in Northern river catchments.

The Council programs regular flood readiness and training exercises for its crews, including the closure of major flood gates like the Charles St Bridge and Taroona St every two years.
